This site gives the details of the recovery of the crew of
Fairey Battle P2330 from 98 Squadron Royal Air Force
which crashed on a remote Icelandic glacier on 26 May
1941. All four crew members perished in the crash and
although rescuers reached the crash site in 1941, they
were unable to recover the bodies.
The aircraft and crew were consumed by the glacier and
there they remained until August 2000.
The recovery was made by a combined team of rescuers
from the RAF Mountain Rescue Service and the Icelandic
Mountain Rescue Team based at Akureyri in Northern Iceland.
